Panagiotes Anastasiades is Professor of Lifelong and Distance learning with the use of ICT in the Faculty of Education, Department of Primary Education of the University of Crete.
Founder & Director of the Laboratory for Advanced Learning Technologies in Lifelong and Distance Education [eLearning Lab].
Founder & Director of the Master's Programme: Educational Sciences - Distance Education using ICT (e-Learning: Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, 3D Animation).
His research interests are in the areas of:
- Pedagogical use of ICT and in particular artificial intelligence applications, social media, digital storytelling and augmented reality to encourage the creativity of students and teachers in matters related to digital cultural heritage and the safe and creative use of the internet.
- Pedagogical Utilization of ICT in the field of Lifelong and Distance Learning (Advanced Teacher Training Environments, School Distance Education)
Academic career.
Panagiotes Anastasiades has taught at the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics of the Polytechnic School of the University of Patras for three years and at the Department of Informatics of the University of Cyprus for two academic years (2000-2002)
Since 2002 he has been a faculty member of the Faculty of Education, Department of Primary Education of the University of Crete.
Since the academic year 2006-2007 he has been a Tutor Counsellor at the Hellenic Open University in the Master's Program in Open and Distance Learning.
Since the Academic Year 2004-2005 he teaches in the Master's Program: "ICT in Education" of the Pedagogical Department of the University of Athens.
Research
He is the author of ten books in Greek and international publishing houses and more than 200 of his papers on the pedagogical use of ICT in the Field of Education, Distance Learning and Lifelong Learning have been published in international scientific journals and conference proceedings.
Since 2008 he has been a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the international scientific journal: Computers and Education, and of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning (IJMBL) as well as in the review committee of the International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) & Open Education: The Journal for Open and Distance Education and Educational Technology. Since 2000 he has been a member of scientific committees/review committees in over 100 international and national conferences.
Contribution
-Since 2000 he has been scientifically responsible for a school supplementary distance learning program through interactive technologies "ODYSSEAS: ICT and Creativity" between primary schools in Cyprus and Greece, in which 9,000 students and 360 teachers from 180 Primary Schools have participated.
- Between 2022 and 2023 he was responsible for the pedagogical design & implementation of eLearning Lab educational programmes in matters of pedagogical utilization of artificial intelligence applications in education in which approximately 10,000 teachers from Greece and Cyprus participated.
-During the pandemic March 2020- December 2021 he was responsible for the pedagogical design & implementation of an educational support programme of the eLearning Lab in matters of school distance education in which more than 40,000 teachers from Greece and Cyprus participated.
-Between 2003 and 2017 he was responsible for the pedagogical design & implementation of an integrated online training environment for Greek teachers in diaspora, The specific project aims to continue, develop and promote Greek language and culture, to primary and secondary students of Greek origin, who live and study abroad, as well as non-Greek speaking students who want to learn the Greek language and become participants of the Greek culture.
-Between 2010 and 2012 he was the Vice-President of the Pedagogical Institute of the Greek Ministry of Education and Scientific Manager of the “Major Teacher Training” Programme in the context of which 8,000 primary and secondary school teachers were trained.
Honors - Awards
- Education Leaders Awards 2022: First prize for the contribution of the University of Crete |eLearning Lab in teacher training during the pandemic/quarantine (2020-2021).
- Distinction at National level (2016): The Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs awards the 3rd Primary School of Agios Dimitrios for its actions within the ODYSSEAS 2016 ICT in Education programme: Universal Values-Journey in the Aegean Sea, a sea of humanity
- Distinction at National level (2013): ODYSSEAS Programme is included in the action "Academic and Scientific Excellence" of the Ministry of Education and Religion, Culture and Sports (http://excellence.minedu.gov.gr ) ( http://excellence .minedu.gov.gr)
- Distinction at European Level (March 2011). ODYSSEAS Programme represented Greece at the Pan-European Education Pioneer Forum (organized by Microsoft), Moscow 22-24 March 2011.
- Distinction at National level (January 2011): Distinction of the ODYSSEAS 2010 Program in the 6th Panhellenic Competition of Pioneering Educators (organized by Microsoft according to circular 145789/Γ7/17-11-2010). The teachers who participated in the ODYSSEAS 2010 programme: "Environment - Energy Revolution - The journeys of Captain SOS in the Mediterranean". were distinguished at national level in the 6th Panhellenic Competition of Pioneering Teachers
- European Distinction (2003): Best e-European Practices Knowledge System, European Commission Distinction of the "ODYSSEAS 2000-2004" Program, which since 2003 has been included in the best practices guide of the European Commission's Best e-European Practices Knowledge System
